Winter brings to the High Tatras not only the snow and ice to enjoy the winter atmosphere and winter sports but also a nice tradition of connecting these beautiful natural winter materials such as ice and snow with artists’ fantasy and creative skills. Hrebienok has been a center of Ice art for 11 years now. The themes of the Tatras Temple of Ice vary every year, and it is a secret how the temple will look next winter season until its official opening. Visit Hrebienok in the High Tatras in winter to enjoy the traditional winter atmosphere and explore the secret chambers of the Tatras Temple of Ice. Don’t miss the unforgettable atmosphere of evening concerts and events at the Temple of Ice during the winter season. Experience as well the biggest Ice art competition, Tatry Ice Master, that takes place every year in January at Hrebienok.
The winter 2023/2024 theme of the Tatras Temple of Ice is inspired in England. The temple reflects The Westminster Abbey in London, and the 11th edition theme is a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. and the 15th anniversary of her visit to Slovakia and High Tatras. A sculpting team from four countries used an unbelievable 225 tonnes of ice and 1880 blocks of ice this year. Enjoy the visit to the 11.5 m high ice monument at Hrebienok and bring home the unique souvenir of a glass ball that rolls out of the Temple once a day.
The traditional ice art competition Tatry Ice Master celebrates its 10th year this winter and will take place at Hrebienok on January 27-28, 2024. Ice sculptors from ten countries around the world will show their fantasy and skills at this competition and will breathe life into 50 tonnes of ice. Thirty-five ice sculptures created by the artists during the day will be illuminated from dusk onwards, enhancing the design and beauty of each sculpture. During the Tatra Ice Master event, a rich accompanying program will be prepared for all the visitors. Afterward, one part of the exhibition of the ice sculptures will be placed in a Gallery of Ice Masters at Hrebienok next to The Temple of Ice and will take place until the end of the winter season 2023/2024. The second part of the exhibition will be placed outdoors at Hrebinok until the weather thaws them out.
