With its length of 15 km, the valley of Demänovská dolina is known as the most famous and most visited valley in the Low Tatras. For a long time, the valley was known only among those who admired its underground beauties – the two world famous caves, the Ice Cave and the Cave of Freedom and some smaller caves form the longest cave system in Slovakia. Real tourism boom followed after the first chair lift to the Chopok peak was built in 1936. Thanks to the ideal ski slopes, breath-taking views, good summer hiking possibilities, amazing flora and fauna and enjoyable climate an alpine winter sport centre with international importance has been built. The higher part of the valley – Jasná – is the largest and most popular ski resort in Slovakia. Plenty of cable cars, ski lifts and idyllic slopes offer excellent conditions for skiing for beginners, experienced riders, freestyle skiers, ski alpinists and cross-country skiers. Thousands of beds in hotels, pensions, chalets and apartments of all categories are available throughout the valley.
